Wind and salt-rated coastal gate motors, solar backup and holiday-let access across Gordon’s Bay and the Helderberg.
Bikini Beach, Harbour Island, Strand and Somerset West — coastal homes, apartments and holiday-let gates.
Torque to move large gates against the Helderberg southeaster.
Coastal-rated racks and housings for the seafront.
Sunny Helderberg conditions suit solar-charged backup.
Gordon's Bay throws two things at a gate motor that inland suburbs do not: wind and salt. The southeaster comes hard off the bay, and a large gate catches it like a sail — an under-powered motor struggles against that load every windy day and wears out early, so along the Strand seafront and around Bikini Beach and Harbour Island we fit motors with the torque to move big gates against the wind. The salt air is just as punishing on the hardware, corroding racks, fixings and boards, so we use coastal-rated, corrosion-resistant components and seal the housing against the spray.
Many of the properties here are apartments and holiday lets whose owners are not always around, which makes reliability and remote-friendly access the priority — keypad or multi-remote entry that a letting manager can hand over, and battery backup so a gate never traps guests in or out during load-shedding. The Helderberg gets good sun, so solar charging is often worth adding to keep that backup battery full through long outages. Inland towards Somerset West the gates are more standard but the same principles apply. We assess the gate, the exposure and the access needs free before we quote.
One visit, more done: Many Gordon’s Bay properties pair a gate motor with our Gordon’s Bay CCTV installation or a DSTV install — one callout for the whole property.
Questions we get from Gordon’s Bay homeowners
Very much. A large gate catches the southeaster like a sail, and an under-powered motor struggles against that load every windy day and wears out early. We fit motors with the torque to move big gates against the Gordon’s Bay wind so they are not fighting the weather.
Yes — salt corrodes racks, fixings and control boards on the seafront. We use coastal-rated, corrosion-resistant components and seal the housing against spray, which is why our installs outlast bargain jobs near the beach.
Yes — we set up keypad or multi-remote access that a letting manager can hand over to guests, with battery backup so the gate never traps anyone in or out during load-shedding.
Often, yes. The Helderberg gets good sun, so a solar panel keeps the backup battery topped up through long outages — handy for holiday lets and homes where nobody is around to recharge things.
Installations start from around R4,500; wind-rated motors, coastal fittings and solar backup are quoted after a free site assessment. Call 067 706 5216.
